Foundation Scholarships Available

Audrey Hunter Nursing ScholarshipEstablished in 2008 for the appreciation of Audrey Hunter's 28 years of outstanding service as a member of the McLeod Health Board of Trustees, and in honor of a lifetime commitment to the profession of nursing. She culminated her healthcare visionary mission by becoming the first woman to serve on the McLeod Health Board of Trustees and became the "voice of nursing" there for over 30 years. The scholarship is awarded to a health care professional at McLeod Health who is continuing their education in nursing.

Betty Jo Barnes Nursing Scholarship- DillonThis scholarship was established in 2007 by Donald and Laura Hayes, to honor their sister, Betty Jo Barnes, longtime nurse and mentor at McLeod Health Dillon. The scholarship is for working mothers from Dillon County that are enrolled in a nursing program.

Bruce and Barbara Barragan Nursing ScholarshipEstablished to honor, Bruce Barragan, McLeod Health CEO when he announced his retirement in 2005. Bruce's wife, Barbara, later passed away from cancer and Bruce changed the name of the scholarship to the Bruce and Barbara Barragan Nursing Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a health care professional at McLeod Health who is continuing their education in nursing.

Daphne Bazen Heffler (Cardiac Nursing)Established in 2012 in honor of Daphne Bazen Heffler's longtime services as a nurse and vice-president at McLeod Health. This scholarship is to assist a Registered Cardiac Nurse who is working to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.

Dwight Jenkinson Business ScholarshipEstablished in 2006 in honor of Dwight A. Jenkinson, Jr, who was Interim Administrator of McLeod Regional Medical Center from 1974 -1977 and was instrumental in the construction of the new hospital. Dwight served as Vice-President of Fiscal Services from 1977 until his retirement in 1991. This scholarship is to support healthcare professionals at McLeod Health that are continuing their education in the business field.

Helen F. Bush Memorial Scholarship  (Medical Technology)Established in 1991, in memory of Helen F. Bush. This scholarship is to provide assistance for students enrolled in the Medical Technology Program at McLeod Health. Helen Bush worked in the laboratory for many years at McLeod Health. After her death is 1988 of cancer, her co­workers published the MRMC Lab Cookbook to raise funds to establish this scholarship in her memory.

Huminski Nursing LeadershipEstablished in 2012 by Leanne Huminski, Vice President of Patient Services at McLeod Health. This scholarship is for a nurse leader to further his/her education by obtaining either a Bachelors, Masters of Doctorate in Nursing.

Kyra Nettles Memorial Scholarship  (Medical Technology)Established in 2004 by Dr. and Mrs. Michael Pavy in memory of Kyra Nettles, a Medical Technologist for Dr. Pavy who was tragically killed in an automobile accident. This scholarship is to provide assistance for students enrolled in the Medical Technology Program at McLeod Health.

Mozelle Dabney Nursing ScholarshipHonoring the memory of Mozelle Adams Dabney by encouraging the pursuit of her believed profession among individuals exemplifying the principles she practiced. Mrs. Dabney was the epitome of a professional nurse, caring for people with the same degree of commitment, no matter who they were. Her shifts were measured not by a clock but by the needs and welfare of her patients.

Nina Annas Lee Scholarship – DillonEstablished in 2004, this scholarship is to be awarded to an employee of McLeod Health Dillon. Nina was a long-time nurse at Saint Eugene Medical Center, which later became McLeod Health Dillon. This scholarship was established by her husband, Bill Lee, to honor her memory and many years of compassion and service. While his first choice is that the scholarship be awarded to a student pursuing a nursing career, he wants to ensure all students are able to pursue their dreams in healthcare.

The Dr. Vera C. Hyman Medical Technology Endowed ScholarshipThe Dr. Vera C. Hyman Medical Technology Scholarship was established in August 2017, by Dr. Vera Hyman to provide assistance for students enrolled in the Medical Technology Program at McLeod Health. Dr. Vera Hyman was instrumental in the establishment of the Medical Technology Program at McLeod Health and was one of the first students before going on to medical school to become a Pathologist.

The Georgia and Timothy Hess Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 2018, by Georgia and Tim Hess. Tim Hess served as Senior Vice- President for Human Resources at McLeod Health and this scholarship is to provide support to an up and coming leader who may not have access to a traditional clinical or executive scholarship.

Will H. Darby Pharmacy ScholarshipThis scholarship was established in May 2005, in memory of Will H. Darby, by his daughter, Betty Ann Darby. Mr. Darby was the first licensed professional pharmacist on staff at McLeod Regional Medical Center. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to pharmacy students continuing their education.

McLeod Loris Seacoast Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the McLeod Loris Seacoast Hospital Medical Staff to support individuals interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
